AI Lecturer at Dong A University Awarded Full PhD Scholarship by the French Government

PhD Candidate Nguyen Dac Hieu – lecturer in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and researcher at the International Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (IAD), Dong A University – has officially been awarded a full PhD scholarship worth 3 billion VND (≈108,000 EUR) from the University of Lille, France.

This achievement stems from the strategic collaboration between IAD – Dong A University and the University of Lille (ENSAIT – GEMTEX), led by Dr. Tran Kim Duc, Head of the International Chair in Data Science & Explainable AI at IAD, Dong A University. Dr. Duc serves as the key coordinator of international AI projects and academic partnerships with French institutions and the GEMTEX Laboratory – ENSAIT – University of Lille, France’s leading laboratory in smart materials, AI, and textile technologies, where PhD Candidate Nguyen Dac Hieu will pursue his doctoral studies.

PhD Candidate Hieu was nominated by the IAD of Dong A University and subsequently endorsed by leading professors in France, who recognized his outstanding research capacity, strong scientific record, and long-term development potential.

With this fully funded scholarship—covering 100% tuition fees for three years, research costs, experimentation, project participation, and various additional support - Hieu will conduct his doctoral research titled “Systemic Material AI Recycling for Textiles using Federated AI Learning”, under the ANR Project funded by the French Government.

The project focuses on cutting-edge research directions, including Multimodal and Multiscale AI; Federated Learning for recycling plants; Digital Product Passport (DPP); and automation of material recycling in textiles, plastics, and electronics. These areas are pivotal to Europe’s Circular Economy Strategy, aligned with the EU Green Deal and the vision of the Fifth Industrial Revolution.
