Prof. Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan
Professor Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University, Canada. He earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, marking the beginning of an extraordinary academic journey.
With over 450 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and more than 25 authored or edited books, Professor Balakrishnan is internationally recognized for his contributions to these fields. Notable among his publications are "Handbook of the Logistic Distribution" and "Advances in Distribution Theory, Order Statistics, and Inference", which have become foundational texts in statistical research.
Professor Balakrishnan’s significant contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including Fellowship in the American Statistical Association (ASA) and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). He has also been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Indian Statistical Association (IISA). Beyond his research, Professor Balakrishnan is deeply committed to advancing the statistical community through his mentoring of students, his editorial leadership, and his active participation in organizing major international conferences.
