In the afternoon of March 15, 2024, there was an expertise sharing session on microchips and semiconductor at Edison hall, Dong A University. Microchips (IC)- semiconductors are a rapidly growing technology field, the situation
Dr. Vu Thang Nguyen, Lecturer from Ha Noi University of Technology, a specialist in microchips and semiconductor, had a presentation on Microchips and semiconductor technology: Human resources and Training in an expertise sharing session at Dong A University.
Firstly, his presentation stated the situation of microchips and semiconductor field in Vietnam especially since the visit of President Joe Biden in September 2023. During his visit to Vietnam, he held talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and agreed to raise bilateral relations to a new high level of "Comprehensive strategic partnership". The high-level talks between the two leaders were accompanied by several major business deals. Synopsys, a leading semiconductor design company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Vietnamese government organization to collaborate to help the Vietnamese semiconductor industry enhance its chip design workforce and capabilities in manufacturing and R&D.
There have been a lot of visits of leaders of countries and important figures in semiconductor technology to Vietnam from then.
Then, PhD Vu Thang pointed out the reasons why the emiconductor field is hot in Vietnam, which includes important points of time, the movements of semiconductor companies and the lack of human power.
From there, he derived the market needs and capacity requirements for workers in this field. The current manpower in semiconductor of Vietnam is about 5,000 people. The recruit demand increases from 10% to 15% a year and mainly the positions of physical design engineer, layout design engineer and test engineer.
As a result, he drew the reasons why students should study microchip and semiconductor major. They are because of the high salary, a lot of job and development opportunities and the chances to work abroad.
The expertise sharing session ended at 4pm on the same day.
